Волейболна кариера от Кортен до националния отбор: историята на Славена Никова

Волейболът не е просто игра над мрежата. Той учи на дисциплина, отговорност, уважение и работа в екип. В този спорт един състезател не може да спечели сам – победата принадлежи на целия отбор, на хората, които се борят за всяка топка и не се отказват.

Volleyball is a sport of skill, character, and team spirit. In just a few seconds, you have to think, react, and trust the person next to you. There is no room for hesitation – every ball is a new challenge, and every point is won with a lot of movement, concentration, and determination.

За мен волейболът се превърна именно в такъв урок за живота. Историята ми започна в малкото село Кортен, премина през ВК „ЦСКА“, националните отбори на България и ВК „Марица“ – Пловдив, стигна до груповата фаза на Шампионската лига, а днес продължава от другата страна на мрежата – като треньор по волейбол.

Първите стъпки във волейбола в Кортен

Израснах в село Кортен, община Нова Загора, където направих първите си стъпки във волейбола в училищния салон.

Един ден баща ми твърдо реши да ме заведе на тренировка на волейболен клуб „Кортен“. Спомням си, че в началото бях доста притеснена, но не ми отне много време да се отпусна и да заиграя рамо до рамо с по-големите „каки“.

Много важна роля в началото на моята волейболна кариера имаше първата ми треньорка – Жечка Павлева. Тя беше отдадена и всеотдайна към състезателите и спорта. Именно чрез нейния пример разбрах, че треньорът не просто преподава спортни умения, а може да остави следа в живота на един млад човек.

Every summer we participated in the „Republican Championship for Small Villages“ – the competition that we had been preparing for all year. For us, it was much more than a tournament. It was the moment when everything we had been training for all year had to find its meaning on the field. The matches were fierce, emotional, and filled with tension, and very often after the final point the final ended with tears – from joy, excitement, and the satisfaction of having given our all and won gold medals.

От Кортен до ВК „ЦСКА“ и Спортното училище в София

Именно на един от тези турнири бях забелязана от селекционери на едни от водещите волейболни клубове в България.

Тогава бях едва на 14 години, но пред мен вече се отваряше възможност, която можеше да промени целия ми спортен път. Избрах да продължа развитието си във ВК „ЦСКА“ и да уча в Спортно училище „Ген. Владимир Стойчев“.

Заминах за София и започна един от най-важните периоди в моята волейболна кариера.

The new world was completely different. I was in the capital of Bulgaria, away from my home, in an unfamiliar environment, among new people, and with a daily routine filled with a lot of training, discipline, and responsibilities. There were difficult moments – moments of fatigue, doubts, and a lack of home and family, but it was precisely those that taught me to be stronger, more persistent, and not give up when things weren’t easy.

С времето София се превърна във втори дом, а хората около мен – в семейство. Създадох приятелства, които останаха през годините.

Успехите с ВК „ЦСКА“

Годините във ВК „ЦСКА“ ми донесоха множество медали и призови класирания на финалите на Държавните първенства при подрастващите, както и успехи и шампионски титли с женския отбор.

Но зад всеки медал стояха безброй часове в залата, много труд и постоянство.

Тогава започнах да разбирам нещо, което по-късно се превърна в един от най-важните уроци в спортния ми път – талантът може да ти отвори врата, но трудът и постоянството са това, което те кара да продължиш напред.

Националният отбор на България

As early as 2011, I was included in the national team of Bulgaria U16. From that moment on, every year I had the honor to be part of the national teams of Bulgaria for juniors. There were also participations and medals at Balkan Games, qualifications for European Championships and the biggest international stages that a young volleyball player dreams of reaching.

In 2014 I participated in the European Championships in Tallinn, Estonia, and in 2015 one of the most exciting experiences in my sporting career came – the participation in the World Championships (U20) in Puerto Rico.

Looking back, I realize that the journey from the small village to the national team was not just a series of competitions and medals. It was a path of growth – as an athlete, but mostly as a person. A path that taught me that talent can open doors, but it’s hard work and perseverance that drive you forward. Twice-daily workouts, summer camps with the national team every year, hours in the gym, and almost no free time – while my peers enjoyed their vacation, my summer was spent training, traveling, and chasing a dream.

ВК „Марица“ – Пловдив и Шампионската лига

After the years at CSKA, it was time for a new challenge. In 2018, I moved to VK „Maritsa“ – Plovdiv, where I spent three seasons, wearing the yellow-blue team jersey. I joined a team that at that time was the champion of Bulgaria and had just made the historic step to the group stage of the Champions League.

This was another incredible experience for which I am grateful to have had the opportunity to be a part of it. For two years we played in the group stage of the Champions League and had the opportunity to face some of the biggest names in world club volleyball – VakfBank Istanbul, Dynamo Moscow and other world-class teams. Standing on the other side of the net against competitors you have only seen on TV is a feeling that is hard to describe in words. And also playing shoulder to shoulder with some of the best volleyball players in Bulgaria to date. These are experiences and memories that remain forever.

At Maritsa I continued to develop not only as a competitor, but also as a person. I met new people, made new friendships, and gained experience that helped me to look at volleyball from a different perspective. Every coach I have worked with over the years has left their mark on my development. From each of them I have learned something – knowledge, attitude, work ethic, or a lesson that I later carried with me onto the court.

Волейболната кариера не е само медали и победи

Of course, everything I have described so far is the most beautiful moments of my sporting career – the medals, victories, big championships, and the emotions that remain forever. But behind them there is another side of the sport that is not always talked about. There have been many losses, disappointments, tears, moments of doubt, and injuries. There have been matches in which you gave your all, but that was not enough. There have been days when the body said „no,“ but the heart wanted to continue. But that is what sport is – not only about victories, but also the ability to get up after a loss, accept disappointment, and return to the gym the next day even more motivated. All these difficult moments are part of the path of growth, and sometimes they are the lessons that stay with us the longest.

Today, when I look back on this period, I see not just clubs, seasons, and competitions. I see the people who have been part of my journey, the moments that have built me up, and all those small steps that gradually turned me into the competitor and the person I am today. And most importantly, this time it doesn’t stop with the last match played – everything I’ve learned over the years continues to live in me to this day.

And maybe just then, without even realizing it, through volleyball, not only my love for the sport was born, but also the dream that one day I would be the person on the other side of the net myself – the coach who inspires the next generation.

От състезател до треньор по волейбол

След края на състезателната ми кариера (в началото на пандемията) дойде време да предам натрупаното през годините в следващия етап от живота си. Довърших образованието си в Национална спортна академия „Васил Левски“, специалност „Треньор по волейбол“ и „Учител по физическо възпитание и спорт“. Постепенно започнах да гледам на волейбола не само през очите на състезателя, а и през тези на човека, който трябва да помага на другите да намерят своя път в спорта.

At the same time, the most important thing in my life changed in the most beautiful way. I focused on my family – I have a wonderful partner in life and an even more wonderful son. It was my family that gave me another perspective on success, happiness, and what really matters after all the medals and victories.

Today I am in the gym again, but this time on the other side of the net. For several years I have been working as a sports coach – volleyball – at the St. Kliment Ohridski Sports School in Vratsa, and as a volleyball coach at VK „Botev“ – Vratsa.

Най-голямата мотивация – да вдъхновяваш следващото поколение

Когато застана в залата пред децата, понякога се връщам мислено към онова малко момиче, което за първи път е влязло във волейболната зала и е направило първите си несигурни крачки. Към първия треньор и семейството, които повярваха в него, към първата топка, първата тренировка, първата победа, първата загуба и всички онези моменти, които са го накарали да мечтае.

Днес моята най-голяма мотивация е да бъда за децата това, което някога някой е бил за мен – човекът, който ще повярва в тях, преди те самите да са повярвали напълно в себе си.

Защото волейболът ми даде много повече от спортна кариера. Даде ми приятелства, уроци, възможности, спомени и хора, които завинаги ще останат част от моя път. А днес имам the possibility to give back some of this to the next generation.

Може би именно това е най-красивото продължение на един спортен път – да предадеш нататък любовта към играта, характера, който тя изгражда, и вярата, че зад всяко дете стои една история, която тепърва предстои да бъде написана.
